In a stunning pro-life victory that eclipses all other pro-life rulings in the last 50 years, the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade!
Now what? What’s legal? What’s not legal?
For each state, the answer will be different. For Texas, our current Heartbeat Law—making it illegal for an abortion to be performed after a fetal heartbeat is detected—still stands. Texas also has a trigger law in place—that will outlaw abortion in all cases except to save the life of the mother—set to go into effect 30 days from now.
For some of our neighboring states, such as Louisiana, abortion will also become illegal. It’s already illegal at all stages in Oklahoma. However, abortion will remain legal in New Mexico and Colorado. The U.S. is about to become a checkerboard of pro-life vs. pro-abortion states.
While we rejoice that an egregious wrong that has cost the lives of over 60 million children in the U.S. over the last 49 years has been corrected, let us not forget that abortion has not been made illegal throughout our land.
For those of us who are pro-life, now’s the time to redouble our efforts, to show love and compassion to women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Now is the time to show just how pro-life we are—as we continue to provide godly wisdom and support for women facing a pregnancy decision.
Although outlawed in Texas, women will have the option of traveling to an abortion-friendly state. And unregulated access to abortion pills provided by international “women’s health organizations” that operate outside of U.S. laws will only grow.
At Care Net Pregnancy Center of Houston, our mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ and provide godly wisdom and compassionate support to women facing a pregnancy decision. That mission is no different today—with the overturning of Roe—than it was when we joined the frontlines over 30 years ago.
Women will always have many pregnancy options—some legal, others not legal; some God-honoring, others that destroy sacred life. Given what will no doubt be turbulent and divisive days ahead, now is the time to stay true to our mission. Now is the time to show Christ’s love. Now is the time to show compassion. Now is the time to share truth—the truth about the life in the womb and the truth about how to have eternal life.
Our vision remains to see a community where all women choose LIFE—that they choose LIFE for their baby and that they choose eternal LIFE for themselves.
Would you continue to PRAY for the women in our community facing unplanned pregnancies—that they would come to see this child as the blessing that God intended. Would you PRAY for peace across our land, for those who have been blinded by Satan on the issue of LIFE—and PRAY specifically for the safety and protection of all the staff and volunteers at Care Net.
Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with us so that together, we can Save Lives Today…and for Eternity!
Yours in Christ,
